PIs: Nina Barker, M.S. and Kirk Hatfield, Ph.D., University of Florida

In the early 1980s, the FHWA recognized a need to provide training and technical assistance to the nation’s local agencies and established a technology transfer program now known as LTAP. The Florida Transportation Technology Transfer (T2) Center, University of Florida, has served as Florida’s LTAP since 1984.  LTAP’s network of 58 centers covers all states, Puerto Rico and seven Native American Tribal governments as Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) centers. Each task in the LTAP project will incorporate the Focus Areas set forth by FHWA: 1) Safety [Roadway Safety, Worker Safety and Work Zone Safety]; 2) Workforce Development; 3) Infrastructure Management; and 4) Organizational Excellence. Objectives and Supportive Tasks are: a) deliver training; b) produce and deliver newsletters; c) distribute technology transfer materials; and d) compile and maintain a mailing list.
